Two very different Lake Worths

“Lake Worth” can mean two different places. The City of Lake Worth Beach, along the Intracoastal, is a historic city with a walkable downtown, older bungalow and cottage neighborhoods and smaller lots. West of the City, many homes have a Lake Worth mailing address but sit in unincorporated Palm Beach County, in planned and gated communities with lakes and larger backyards. We build in both, and the right design and the right permit office depend on where your home is.

Pools for smaller historic lots

On a compact lot in Lake Worth Beach, a well-planned pool can still feel like a resort. Think a clean rectangle or plunge pool, a sun shelf, a spa at one end, and deck and landscaping that use every foot. Access is the big planning item on older lots, with tight side yards, mature trees and older utility lines, so we sort it out during the free on-site visit before we design.

Renovating an older pool

Many older pools here are ready for a refresh. A renovation can include resurfacing, new waterline tile and coping, a saltwater conversion, updated plumbing and equipment, or a new deck.

Pool Permits in the City of Lake Worth Beach

Inside the City, pool permits are handled by the City of Lake Worth Beach Building Division, part of the Community Sustainability Department at 1900 2nd Avenue North. A pool permit package includes signed and sealed engineered plans, a survey showing setbacks, the barrier method chosen to meet Florida’s Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, and separate plumbing and electrical sub-permits. We prepare and file all of it and schedule the inspections through final.

Historic Districts in Lake Worth Beach

Lake Worth Beach has six local historic districts, including College Park, Northeast Lucerne, Southeast Lucerne, Old Lucerne, South Palm Park and the Old Town commercial district. Neighborhoods such as Mango Groves sit almost entirely inside the Northeast Lucerne district. In a historic district, exterior changes go through the City’s historic preservation review, which is overseen by the Historic Resources Preservation Board, in addition to the building permit.

A backyard pool is usually less visible than changes to the front of a home, but the review still has to happen first. Fences, screen enclosures and equipment placement can matter too. We check whether your property is in a district and build that review into the plan and the schedule.

Suburban Lake Worth: Unincorporated Palm Beach County

West of the City, communities with Lake Worth addresses, such as The Fields, are generally in unincorporated Palm Beach County. Pools there are permitted by the Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning & Building Department through its ePZB online system, with electrical, gas and barrier sub-permits. Most of these communities also have an HOA with architectural review. We check your parcel and prepare both packages.

Outdoor Living Around the Pool

Whether your yard is a compact historic lot or a lakefront backyard out west, the pool works best as part of the whole space. We can add a pergola for shade, an outdoor kitchen near the deck, artificial turf for low-maintenance green space and lighting for evening swims. Want to do it in phases? We can build the pool first and leave the utilities and deck space ready for later, so nothing gets torn up down the road.

Recent Lake Worth Project: The Fields

At The Fields in Lake Worth, we built a new lakefront freeform gunite pool with an attached raised round spa that has a built-in bench. A light deck surrounds the pool, and a turf lattice walkway with a dark stone border adds texture to the backyard.
